"Capitol Hell inevitably relates to the upcoming election," says Von Sholly. "But it is only partly about current situations. I see Capitol Hell as a document on the state of American politics in recent years. It's a series of snapshots of our times, inspired by my love and knowledge of genre films with a dose of my twisted sense of humor."
Von Sholly is a Hollywood storyboard artist (The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption, Mars Attacks!) and a gadfly graphic novelist (Extremely Weird Stories, Comic Book Nerd.) In Capitol Hell, he pulls from each discipline to poke a stick at politicos and commentators on both sides of the aisle and in between. The satirical blurbs on the back of each usable postcard is provided by Denis Kitchen, a legend in underground comics publishing who also has a full palette of achievements to boast.
The twenty-four duotone Capitol Hell postcards are perforated for easy removal. The 4” x 6.5” format book retails for $11.95 (less than 50¢ per card!) Denis Kitchen Publishing (DKP) is the brainchild of veteran publisher Denis Kitchen. Kitchen established this specialty imprint following a 30-year run as founder and publisher of Kitchen Sink Press (1969-99), a pioneer in underground comix, graphic novels and ancillary creative projects such as 1992's trading card set Republicans Attack!. DKP publishes works by cartoonists such as R. Crumb, Harvey Kurtzman and, the multi-award nominated Alexa Kitchen.
